Book Launch and Events Abound for Library and Information Week
Published on 12 May 2021
Northern Grampians Library Services will be catering to all ages with several events planned for this year’s Library and Information Week (Library Week), a week observed nationally by libraries. Library Week will be held this year from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 May.
The theme for Library Week is “Adventures in Space and Time”. To celebrate this theme, St Arnaud and Stawell Libraries will delight younger library users with a reading of “Give Me Some Space!” by Philip Bunting during the Simultaneous Storytime that forms part of the week’s activities.
During Library Week, both libraries will participate in the Biggest Morning Tea, a fundraising event for the Cancer Council. The morning tea event at Stawell is also earmarked as an opportune time to celebrate the announcement of recent funding to refurbish the library.
Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson, sees the national week of observance as a wonderful opportunity for the community to refamiliarise themselves with the diverse range of services available at the shire libraries.
“Many of us think of our libraries as the obvious place to access free books, media and information within our community but they are very much community hubs where all generations and like-minded people can gather to pursue their special interests,” he said.
“Our libraries host book clubs, local history clubs, preschool storytime, school holiday activities, craft activities, writing groups and provide a comfortable and quiet place for our residents to work or study with ready access to PCs and printing, scanning and laminating.
“I encourage all of the community whether you are a regular or infrequent library visitor or completely new to our Northern Grampians Libraries to come along and experience everything on offer during this fun packed week.”

Book Launch
Prior to LIW, on Sunday 16 May, Stawell Library will host a book launch at 2.30pm for former Stawell resident Terri Mitchell. Ms Mitchell’s book, Legacies, is a fiction that explores how the experiences of two young adults, Mickey and Katie, are affected by alcohol and drug abuse; their distinct experiences bond them and help them to navigate to healing and affirmation of their individuality.
