Northern Grampians Shire residents can influence council's 2026/27 budget by reviewing and providing feedback on the proposed council plan year two priorities. This process is different from previous years where residents traditionally had an opportunity to provide submissions to a draft budget. Feedback closes at 4pm Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Community Safety Officers do not attend properties to catch cats. Instead, council provides residents with cage traps that are designed to humanely trap cats.
Here are the rules for obtaining cat traps from council, along with collection protocols:
Due to occupational health and safety and operational requirements, council will no longer collect personal traps. If personal traps are used, they must be delivered to council’s pound.
Under no circumstances are traps to be returned to the town hall with a cat in them. The traps will not be accepted unless arranged prior with council officers.
Council will not collect traps on weekends or public holidays.
Cats trapped outside collection hours will not be collected and must be released.
All trap/cat collections must be arranged prior to 10am on collection days to ensure council staff can plan their working days effectively and guarantee collection. To arrange collection, you can call (03) 5358 9096 or email community.safety@ngshire.vic.gov.au. If you are unable to notify of collection, you will need to deliver the trap to council’s pound or release the cat.
To book a cat trap, please complete the form below or visit our offices in Stawell or St Arnaud to complete a paper copy. An officer will notify you when a trap is available.
