St Arnaud Cemetery has standard plaque dimensions for the lawn cemetery and cremated remains areas. Plaques are usually arranged sometime after the burial or the interment of cremated remains, once the family is ready to take the next steps.

Northern Grampians Shire Council offers this plaque service. When you are ready to arrange the memorial plaque, please contact our cemeteries department by either phone, email or by appointment at the St Arnaud Customer Service Centre. Our staff will be able to assist and guide you through the entire process.

Please contact a monument supplier (stonemason) to manage plaque orders for the Pleasant Creek (Stawell) Cemetery.

An 'Application to Establish or Alter a Memorial or Place of Interment' form must be provided with payment of appropriate cemetery fee before carrying out any works within the cemetery grounds.

Northern Grampians Shire Council holds considerable, but not complete, records for the Pleasant Creek (Stawell) and St Arnaud cemeteries. Please contact us for historical or research purposes or alternatively contact the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages or a local historical society.

Note: only prescribed information as per the Cemeteries Regulations will be made available to the public. Access to non-prescribed cemetery trust information requires a Freedom of Information request.

If you believe that our records are inaccurate or incomplete, please send the evidence you have to support this claim, such as a copy of a death certificate, to us via our email address: cemeteries@ngshire.vic.gov.au. We will assess the information and if appropriate, update our records accordingly.

Why pre-purchase?

Pre-purchasing allows you to make an informed decision about the arrangements you would like to put in place for yourself or a loved one. This helps ensure the family members looking after arrangements at the time of a burial have everything they need to make sure your wishes are followed.

When you purchase a grave or memorial in advance, you receive a Right of Interment Permit and fact sheet; these documents should be kept in a safe place with the details of your wishes so family has everything they need. It is also beneficial to note the details of your Right of Interment in your will.

In Victoria, the prices for cemetery plots and services are regulated by the State Government, and they increase by a certain percentage every year. Purchasing from us now rather than at the time of need can help keep the costs down.

Note: Lawn cemetery pre-purchases are not allocated a specific location.

Please contact the cemeteries department for further information on pre-purchase costs and options.
