Building services
Council's Building Department can assist with advice and technical information in regard to construction, alteration, extension, demolition or change of use for all types of buildings within the Shire in accordance with the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018.
At the Council Meeting on 4th May 2025, Council determined to phase out the processing of building permit applications by Council as of 1st July 2025, subject to an exemption being granted by the Minister. Instead of relying on Council to issue Building Permits, residents can now obtain a Building Permit from any of the registered private Building Surveyors who operate in our Municipality. For more information regarding how to obtain a building permit from a Private Building Surveyor, please go to: Apply for a building permit
Our Building Department continues to work to meet Council's statutory obligations and ensure compliance with building legislation and other regulations. Council continues to assess applications for a relaxation of building controls (report and consent requests); for the approval of temporary structures and events, and a variety of other statutory functions. to ensure they are compliant. Council also continues to maintain a free advisory service to assist with building related questions and enquiries.
The Online Planning and Building Portal (Greenlight) is your one-stop-shop to applying for Report and Consent Applications, Section 29A's and more. You can also submit a General Enquiry to check if a building permit will be required via the portal for our team to review.
You can find support, including how to set up an account and submit documents, via the Online Planning and Building Portal support page.
