Open air permit to burn

An Open Air Permit to Burn (under Council’s General Local Law 2022) is required to burn materials exceeding 1 cubic metre in size on land zoned as residential, commercial or industrial outside the declared Fire Danger Period. These permits contain set conditions(PDF, 130KB)(PDF, 75KB) which must be adhered to and are put in place to ensure all burning of land and lighting of fires are done in a safe and controlled manner. A permit is not required if the fire is being used for heating, cooking, cultural or social purposes, or if it is generated by a tool of trade while being used for the purpose for which it was designed.

Click on the following link to apply online. All information must be supplied prior to permit approval. Please allow five working days for the permit to be processed. Once you have submitted your application form, an officer will be in contact to arrange an inspection of your property. The permit fee is $52.00.
