Swim and Survive

Our Swim and Survive program is delivered by qualified swim teachers to ensure essential water safety, personal survival and basic rescue skills are provided. Our teachers make lessons fun, while helping all participants to develop a strong and effective swimming technique. Swim and Survive is a water safety initiative of Royal Life Saving that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of all Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.

Why Swim and Survive?

Learn to swim, swimming lessons and infant aquatics are all terms commonly used across the aquatic industry for programs that seek to build swimming skills. Swim and Survive is all of these, but most importantly it provides a level of protection for children by helping to equip them with solid foundation skills in swimming, survival and basic rescue skills.

  • One in five of all drowning deaths are children aged under 18 years.
  • Over 15 million Australian children have participated in the Swim and Survive program.
  • The program has reduced the rate of drowning in children aged five to 14 years by over 75 per cent.

Wonder, Courage and Active

Wonder, Courage and Active have been chosen as the Swim and Survive program titles to reflect the hopes and aspirations of children and families as they embark on a lifetime of fun and safety in the water.

Wonder : A water familiarisation program for parents and their children aged six months to 36 months.

Courage : A program that builds water confidence for preschool-aged children between the ages of three and five years.

Active : A swimming and water safety program for school-aged children between the ages of five and 14 years.

We provide learn to swim programs for adults based on request.

Our facilities provide a variety of programs specially designed for local schools. Programs can be custom designed to cater for each school's needs. The classes can be done at SSAC year round or at the St Arnaud seasonal pool throughout the summer months. For schools, we tailor swimming lessons, lane hire, swimming carnivals and pool parties.
