Sponsorships and contributions program

Purpose of grant:

The Sponsorship and Contributions grants program will support and encourage community initiatives which:  

  • Enable the continued use and sustainability of community facilities. 

  • Provide and encourage opportunities for growth and sustainability of community groups.  

  • Provide an opportunity for Council to demonstrate support / collaboration with organisations and groups.  

  • Contribute to the promotion of the shire.    

  • Bring economic benefit to the shire.                   

Grant value:

Applicants can request a sponsorship or contribution of up to $3,000 with a maximum of a three-year term.


This Funding stream is now closed and will reopen 1 July 2022.   




Sponsorship is a commercial arrangement in which council provides a contribution of financial or in-kind support for an activity, group or organisation.

Eligibility criteria:

Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

All Sponsorship and Contributions applicants will:

  • Be a not for profit or incorporated body with an Australians Business Number (ABN).  

  • Request sponsorship or contribution with aligns with objectives of the grants program.

  • Be able to demonstrate financial viability and competence.

  • Not already receive substantial support from Council. 

  • Be based in, or demonstrate their project has a direct benefit to the residents of, the Northern Grampians Shire.  

  • Be able to be compliant with Councils regulatory requirements.

  • Provide evidence of Liability Insurance. Events, activities, or construction that have a likelihood of causing damage or personal injury must have public liability insurance (of at least $20 million). Other amounts will be considered where there is no likelihood of damage or injury.  

  • Have the ability to undertake the initiative and acquit expended funds by the end of the financial year, unless provided with a written extension.   
  • Work collaboratively with council.

  • Not already receive substantial support from council.

  • Not be in breach of any statutory requirements. 

Applications will not be eligible if:

  • Organisations or groups are based outside the Northern Grampians Shire, unless the initiative can be proven to still have benefit to residents of Northern Grampians Shire.  

  • Applicants have received grants funding within the same financial year. 

  • Applicants are an individual applying for funds.  

  • The funding is clearly the responsibility of spheres of other Government departments for example, the Department of Health or the Department of Education. 

  • The initiative duplicates other locally available services, resources or programs.   

  • The project / initiative has commenced prior to the date on which the funds are released.  

  • The funds are to be used for ongoing or recurrent operations including wages (Professional services that support project capacity building i.e., Consultant fees, professional services, service, or product contractors that directly benefit the project will be considered) 

  • Previous funding received from Council has not been satisfactorily acquitted. 

  • There is outstanding debt with the council. Council's financial hardship policy can be discussed in context with your application.

  • speak to a member of council's Community Development Team
  • read the program guidelines
  • meet the eligibility of this grant.

Note: It is a condition of this funding that any contributions made by council towards the staging of the activity or project, must be acknowledged.
