New Arts and Culture funding stream for creative projects in 2021

Published on 21 December 2020

The Christmas Break is the perfect time to ponder creative projects that may be eligible for funding when Round 1 of NGSC’s Community Grants 2020/2021 open on 1 February 2021.  From a pool of $20k, each project can be funded up to $3k. Applications will need to address one of the three key themes as outlined in the Arts and Culture Strategy which was endorsed by council on 7 December 2020.

Creative projects that promote participation, help to raise the profile of art or artists and/or celebrate the unique place that is the Northern Grampians Shire will be considered.

Opportunities for participation in the arts are already being implemented following the endorsement of the Arts and Culture Policy 2024 with the commissioning of two local artists to participate in the global 16 days of activism campaign.

Council recognises that arts and culture enrich communities and also sees that arts and culture can play an important role in the COVID-19 recovery through connecting people and communities.

This signifies a further positive step and commitment by council in this space and is a great opportunity to grow arts and culture activities throughout the shire.

Council officers have been working behind the scenes on a first draft of the 12 month Arts and Culture Action Plan that will be available to view in the next few days with feedback being sought in the new year.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Murray Emerson, said the new direction for arts and culture signifies a new chapter for the cultural enrichment of our shire.

“After a challenging 2020 we are very excited to head into the new year with a fresh look at how arts and culture can be supported in 2021 and beyond,” he said.
