Advocacy

Under the Local Government Act 2020, councils must give effect to several overarching governance principles, including: 

  • Achieving the best outcomes for the community;
  • Overseeing the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the shire;
  • Pursuing innovation, continuous improvement and collaboration with other councils, governments and statutory bodies; and
  • Ensuring the ongoing financial viability of the council.  

One way council can support these principles is through a committed advocacy approach that seeks to secure positive outcomes for the services, infrastructure and facilities our community needs.   

Our community vision is “To love where we live”. We cannot achieve this vision alone and is why a coordinated advocacy approach is critical to our success. It is designed to highlight the most pressing challenges and needs within our community aligned with the solutions and outcomes council is seeking.
