Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee
The Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) is required by law under the Emergency Management Act 1986 and 2013. Its main responsibility is to create and maintain the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP).
Northern Grampians Shire's MEMP(PDF, 787KB) outlines strategies to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies in the Northern Grampians area. These emergencies can have a significant impact on residents and infrastructure, and can result in loss of life, property destruction and community dislocation.
The objectives of the plan are as follows:
- Identify, treat and evaluate potential risks to Northern Grampians Shire communities, such as pandemics, extreme heat, fire and floods.
- Implement measures to prevent or reduce the causes and effects of these emergencies.
- Establish arrangements for activating and coordinating municipal resources during emergencies.
- Establish arrangements for the providing assistance to the community during the recovery process.
- Work in conjunction with other local, regional and state planning arrangements.
Council's MEMPC consists of the following members:
- Northern Grampians Shire Council - Municipal Emergency Management Officer (Chair)
- Victoria Police - Municipal Emergency Response Coordinator
- Country Fire Authority (CFA)
- Ambulance Victoria
- Victoria State Emergency Service (SES)
- Australian Red Cross
- Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH)
- Community representative/s
- Local emergency service and agency representatives and others, as required.

Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC)
Council is seeking extraordinary community members to help with the planning and preparation of future emergencies in our community. We are looking for local people with specialist knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:
- Industry and/or production
- Business and/or retail
- Tourism
- Agriculture and/or viticulture
- Education and/or school camps
