What is the MEMPC?

The Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) is required by law under the Emergency Management Act 1986 and 2013. Its main responsibility is to create and maintain the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP).

Northern Grampians Shire's MEMP(PDF, 787KB) outlines strategies to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies in the Northern Grampians area. These emergencies can have a significant impact on residents and infrastructure, and can result in loss of life, property destruction and community dislocation. 

The objectives of the plan are as follows:

  • Identify, treat and evaluate potential risks to Northern Grampians Shire communities, such as pandemics, extreme heat, fire and floods.
  • Implement measures to prevent or reduce the causes and effects of these emergencies.
  • Establish arrangements for activating and coordinating municipal resources during emergencies. 
  • Establish arrangements for the providing assistance to the community during the recovery process.
  • Work in conjunction with other local, regional and state planning arrangements.
