Planning Services
Both statutory planning and strategic planning play vital roles in shaping land use and development within the Northern Grampians Shire.
Statutory Planning
Council’s statutory planners focus on the day-to-day application of the Planning Scheme, including the assessment and approval of planning permit applications. This includes evaluating proposals for new buildings, land use changes, or subdivisions to ensure they comply with established planning controls. Council’s statutory planners can assist with enquiries regarding planning permit applications and are also responsible for undertaking enforcement action where there has been a breach to the Planning Scheme.
Strategic Planning
Council’s strategic planners help write the Planning Scheme, make local planning policies, decide what zoning land should be, and what overlays should be applied to certain areas. This includes preparing structure plans, strategies, and planning scheme amendments. Strategic planning shapes how places evolve over time in response to social, economic, and environmental needs.
Northern Grampians Planning Scheme
The Northern Grampians Planning Scheme is a statutory document that sets out objectives, policies and provisions that control land use and development. They are made up of ordinances and maps. The ordinances are the objectives, strategies, zones and overlays. The maps direct where the zones and overlays apply.
