At December's council meeting in St Arnaud, council resolved to review future community care service options in light of sweeping aged care sector reforms. The decision follows Federal Government changes to the way aged care services are funded and delivered, with new rules coming into effect in November. You can find more via the link below.
Northern Grampians Shire is home to people from many diverse cultures, each bringing unique traditions, strengths and ideas that enrich our community both socially and economically.
To celebrate this diversity and ensure everyone feels included and valued, council has developed the 2025-28 Multicultural Action Plan (MAP), which has been guided by extensive community input and coordinated by our Multicultural Project Officer.
The MAP provides a clear roadmap to ensure Northern Grampians Shire remains a welcoming place where all cultures are respected and celebrated, and sets out practical actions to strengthen connections, address potential barriers, and create opportunities across the municipality.
We are proud to be a welcoming and inclusive community, but we know there is always more we can do to make sure everyone feels supported and valued. Key actions in the MAP focus on three main areas:
Celebration and inclusion: Council will continue to foster a welcoming community where everyone feels they belong. This means celebrating cultural diversity, recognising important cultural days and creating more chances for people to connect, share, and learn from one another.
Leading from within: Council will lead by example and ensure our services, spaces and activities meet the needs of our multicultural community. This includes improving how we work together, building staff cultural capacity and ensuring our decisions are always inclusive and informed.
Partnership and collaboration: We can collectively achieve more by working together. Council will strengthen partnerships with community groups, local organisations, government agencies, local employers, our schools and community services so we can share ideas, resources and create positive and sustainable progress.
