Parenting expert Lael Stone, who has appeared on TEDx and co-hosts the Aware Parenting podcast, will conduct free Connected Parenting workshops for shire parents and carers of secondary school children as part of The Resilience Project program today at Stawell Secondary College.

The Connected Parenting workshops are part of the final stage of a series of school based workshops that commenced in September 2020 run by The Resilience Project, mental health and positive school program facilitators. The workshops aim to provide a valuable set of tools for parents and carers to raise children through positive connections and communication.

Northern Grampians Shire Council received $50,000 in 2020 from the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments through the Bushfire Recovery Community Grant Community Events funding to implement the program. Council and the Department of Education and Training are co-partners with additional on the ground support from primary and secondary schools within the shire.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Tony Driscoll is very pleased to see the program recommence after a hiatus last year due to Covid-19 outbreaks within the school community.

“The Resilience Project was established to help build resilience in school aged youth in the face of difficult events such as bushfires and other disasters,” stated Cr Driscoll.

“We are very grateful for this Victorian Government funding; it has already helped to establish a mental health support network and beneficial tools for our local secondary school communities both at school and at home for children in our shire.

“How wonderful to be able to host such a high-profile parenting expert and sought-after speaker to deliver the final set of workshops too.”

The workshops will take place at:

  • Stawell Secondary College on 16 May from 6.30pm to 8pm
  • St Arnaud, online, TBC, see website.
