In 1925, a small Citroën made history by being the first car to travel right around Australia, and in 2025 The Incredible Journey will commemorate the circuit RIGHT AROUND AUSTRALIA.
On Tuesday December 2, a replica of the original car to travel around Australia will be on display outside the Stawell Seventh-day Adventist church at 50 Main Street, Stawell between 9am and 5pm. Imagine a world without highways, bridges, or even road signs. No GPS, no mobile phone, no internet. Just a tattered map, a trusty car, and Australia’s vast, untamed landscape. In 1925, two ordinary men, Nevill Westwood and Greg Davies, dared to dream of driving a car right around this incredible continent. Their Citroën 5CV, “Bubsie,” became their companion on this epic adventure, battling scorching heat, mechanical breakdowns, and the sheer isolation of the outback. This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of their remarkable achievement. And you have the chance to witness history firsthand, as we will be retracing the steps of Nevill Westwood and “Bubsie” in a similar Citroën 5CV! Come and see this hundred-year-old vehicle up close. Marvel at its ingenious design, imagine the challenges faced by its courageous drivers and connect with the spirit of adventure that drove them across thousands of miles of uncharted territory. Hear the stories of their journey, the resilience they showed, and the human spirit that conquered a continent. These men were driven by a desire to share the gospel message with isolated folk all around Australia.
