Council

Northern Grampians Shire Council formed in 1995 following the amalgamation of the former Shire of Stawell, City of Stawell, Town of St Arnaud and Shire of Kara Kara councils.

The council is elected by the people of Northern Grampians every four years and reports to and is accountable to its community under the Local Government Act 1989 and Local Government Act 2020 and a large number of other legislation that regulates our service delivery.

As an organisation the council works in partnership with all levels of government and local community members to deliver over 60 services to the Northern Grampians community.

Our shire is divided into three wards, Kara Kara, Central and Grampians, with two Councillors representing each ward. Look at the electoral structure and shire boundaries on our interactive map to see the how widely these services are delivered.
