The tender for the design and construction of Lord Nelson Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility was awarded today at the Northern Grampians Shire Council meeting to Ballarat-based MKM Constructions.
The tender is a two stage process; stage one is the design of the Lord Nelson Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility and stage two will be the construction of the facility. This much anticipated project will bring the facilities at Lord Nelson Park into a new realm meeting required standards for many types of sporting and community use. A new commercial kitchen and indoor and outdoor social spaces will make the facility a very attractive venue for gatherings and events. The stipulation for new unisex sports change rooms and the establishment of female-friendly change facilities is an essential component of making the facility a modern, inclusive complex. The amenities upgrade will also accommodate for mixed gender umpiring teams as well as Trainer/First Aid rooms and rooms with all abilities access. MKM Constructions have significant experience in construction particularly throughout the western part of Victoria including many recognisable buildings within the region. MKM has experience in both new builds and modern renovations of existing buildings. Examples of their past projects include the locally recognised Coughlin Park Community Centre, various CFA stations, Warrnambool City Council depot office and amenities upgrade, Southern Grampians Shire Council saleyards and Maryborough Health Clinic. Northern Grampians Shire Council CEO, Liana Thompson, was pleased to see the tender process complete and is looking forward to the project commencing. “This is a project the St Arnaud community have been eager to see happen for such a long time,” she said. “For many residents, Lord Nelson Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility is the lifeblood of the town and a central part of their weekly routines whether it is for sport, agricultural show planning or socialising." “We are very pleased to have appointed MKM as the winning bidder in the tender as they are renowned throughout Western Victoria for building striking and extremely functional, buildings of quality, particularly in the sporting sphere." “I don’t have any doubt that this building will be a drawcard for the town and the modern touches including the indispensable inclusion of female-friendly and unisex changerooms will be much appreciated by all.” Stay up to date with the project as it progresses at www.ngshire.vic.gov.au/lord-nelson-park
