Help engage youth participation and sense of community
Local sporting clubs and recreational spaces provide a meeting place for community and encourage our communities to live active and healthy lives. They are often great places for new families to meet likeminded people and make life-long friendships.
- Great Western Football Netball Club
Providing football and netball for juniors right through to senior grades, the club has a long history of encouraging junior participation and creating a central meeting place for the local community to come together. You can find out more about the club on their website or by visiting their Facebook page, both linked below.
Alternatively, you can also contact their executive committee by emailing president@greatwesternfnc.com.au or secretary@greatwesternfnc.com.au
- Great Western Racing Club
The Great Western Racing Club has been around for 150 years and races once a year in January, usually around the Australia Day public holiday. They are run by a small committee of likeminded people who help with garden and track maintenance and on-the-day event activities. You can find out more about the club on their website or by visiting their Facebook page, both linked below.
Alternatively, you can also contact their Secretary, Penny Penfold, by emailing p.penfold@countryracing.com.au.
- Great Western Racing and Recreation Reserve
The reserve has a small Committee of Management who report to the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) who oversee the land. The space is home to a group of local sporting bodies, including the Great Western Racing Club, Grampians Riding Club and Great Western/Stawell Archery Club. It also hosts a variety of community events throughout the year, such as the Great Western Rodeo, and is hired for private functions, such as weddings and birthdays, due to the function space and public amenities it has available.
