Following on from the success of our Northern Gramps Girls Can campaign last year where council lit up exercise spaces in the early mornings, several of the shire’s sporting facilities are due to light up again in 2026. Between May 4 and September 30, spaces in Stawell and St Arnaud will light up from 6pm to 7.30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and from 6am and 7am on Wednesday mornings.
Keith and Marg Hendy started Hendy Transport in the early 70s with one ‘butter box’ Acco carting sheep to the Donald Abattoir. When the abattoir folded they did a bit of interstate work carting tiles to Adelaide.
In the early 80s they purchased their first tipper. They also purchased 2 "International" trucks, & started carting live poultry.
In the late 80s, the purchase of an existing business helped them to expand into general small freight. They bought their first refrigerated truck soon after and carted offal to Wodonga overnight.
The early 90s, with Troy returning to the business, saw the company really begin to grow.
The purchase of another transport company, was the beginning of carting to local IGA supermarkets, while still carting general freight in and out of Melbourne. The purchase of tankers & tippers began the carting of bulk stockfeed & grain.
