How to pay your rates

To pay your rates online, you will need your BPAY Reference Number as shown on your latest rate notice. 


Rates are payable by four quarterly instalments, unless you have contacted us to pay via fortnightly Direct Debit or are currently on a financial assistance plan. Reminder notices are issued prior to the respective due date of each instalment.

Current due dates for the 2025/26 financial year are:

  • Instalment one - September 30, 2025
  • Instalment two - December 1, 2025
  • Instalment three - March 2, 2026
  • Instalment four - June 1, 2026

Please note, instalments not paid by the due date may incur interest at 10% per annum.

If you would prefer the convenience of having your rate notices delivered electronically, council has two options for providing this service. Once you have registered for either EzyBill or BPAY View, all future rate notices will be delivered to you electronically rather than by mail.


EzyBill

EzyBill is a secure and easy way to receive your rate notice directly to your email. The email will contain the notice and a link to enable you to pay.

BPAY View

If you are already registered with your bank for BPAY, you simply need to log onto your online banking site and register to receive Northern Grampians Shire Council rates accounts at the 'BPAY View' or 'View Bills' section.

Once a registration is complete, you will receive an email notification when all future rate notices are delivered to your online banking mailbox.

Direct Debit

Instalment payments can be made by Direct Debit. Application forms must be lodged at least 14 days prior to the due date of the next instalment.

Direct debit payments may be made fortnightly or monthly. Before making a direct debit application, please contact the rates team for confirmation of the appropriate payment amount and the dates these payments will be deducted.

Please be aware that deductions can only be made from a nominated bank account, not a credit card.

BPAY

You can make your rates payments via your banks BPAY service using the BPAY details on your rates notice. If you are unsure on how to use this service, please contact your bank.

Mail

Cheques payable to Northern Grampians Shire Council can be accommodated. Please mail them to: Northern Grampians Shire Council, PO Box 580, Stawell VIC 3380 or drop into our Customer Service team. 

In person

Visit our customer support offices in either St Arnaud or Stawell. We accept credit cards and have EFTPOS facilities.

Australia Post

In person or via BPAY by phoning 13 18 16 or visiting www.postbillpay.com.au.

Please be aware that NGSHIRE is the merchant name that will appear on your statement following payment. If you believe that a payment may have been made in error, please contact us as soon as possible.

Refunds will only be provided where a payment has been made in error which includes accounts that have been overpaid. All refunds will be released at council's discretion.
