The Northern Grampians Shire Council is supporting Australia’s most watched television program The Fishing Show to dedicate an episode featuring local fishing and tourism experiences.
Fishing in Australia is a rapidly growing sport and a primary reason an increasing number of people visit a destination.
Governments across Australia are promoting and enhancing recreational fishing opportunities with fishing being a key element of their healthy living, environmental management and economic development strategies.
In Victoria the State Government has committed to increasing the number of people fishing and has set the target of a million recreational fishers in its current term of office.
This ambitious target has delivered significant changes in policy and management including extensive stocking of native and non-native species to our waterways.
The 2021 Victorian Recreational Fishing Strategy reported that recreational fishing generated $2.9 Billion in direct economic output, supporting over 14,000 direct jobs.
Due to the scale of economic and employment impact generated by recreational fishing, the Victorian Government has established the goal and strategic intent ‘To be Australia’s premier multi-species, multi-region fishing tourism destination that combines everything Victoria has to offer with outstanding fishing experiences.’
Councillor Rob Haswell, Mayor of the Northern Grampians Shire Council welcomes the National free to air television exposure, targeted advertising in fishing magazines and promotion of the shire’s fishing and tourism credentials. He said, “The television program episode is a boom for the shire and a great drawcard to showcase our fishing and tourism experiences.
The program has an average viewer audience of 100,000 per episode and is the most repeated outdoor show on the network.”
It is anticipated that filming for the show will take place in mid-November with the episode going to air early 2024.
