Remember a local: Help name a Stawell road
Published on 10 June 2025
Northern Grampians Shire Council is calling for submissions for the naming of a road in Stawell.
Mayor Karen Hyslop said as part of the State Government’s Remember a Local - Name a Place program, community members could ‘help commemorate a local hero’.
“We are inviting our residents to nominate someone who has made a lasting impact on the Stawell community,” she said.
“This is a special opportunity to honour individuals who have helped shape our lives, especially those from under-represented groups including women, First Peoples and multicultural communities.”
To be commemorated through the Remember a Local program, the person will be deceased; have left a lasting legacy; and have a long association with the nominated area.
“Contributions might include work in community service, healthcare, science, sport, architecture, military service, the arts or volunteering,” Cr Hyslop said.
“Your nomination could help name the new road.”
Cr Hyslop said while the council was currently looking to name a specific road in Stawell, off Holloway Road East, the Remember a Local campaign was ongoing and encompassed all parts of the shire.
“All submissions will be added to the council’s official Name Bank to be considered for future naming opportunities,” she said.
