The third home game of the Stawell Swifts Football and Netball Club will provide the setting for the official opening of the North Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility next month. The upgrade project was funded by $700,000 from the State Government, $500,000 from Sport Australia, over $2 million from the Northern Grampians Shire Council and $150,000 from CKS Swifts Football Netball Club. Federal Member for Mallee, Dr Anne Webster MP, with NGSC Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson, will open the facility at 12.10 pm on Saturday 1 May.

The shire community is invited to attend the opening and ribbon cutting ceremony that will take place at the main doors of the facility overlooking the football ground.

Community members attended a walkthrough of the new building with council on Friday 16 April and a timeline of final external works, primarily signage, landscaping and minor roadworks was outlined. Venue hire pricing and booking procedures and the process to formally name the building were also explained. The community can book the facility for future functions by contacting the council’s Stawell customer service office.

Cr Emerson is looking forward to the official opening of the facility.

“The North Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility project would not have been possible without very generous financial support from the state and federal governments and the incredible donations and fundraising by the local community and the Swifts Football and Netball Club,” he said. “I am very pleased to see this sporting facility project come to fruition and for our community to be able to celebrate its opening during a home game makes it even more fitting and special. “The response from the community during the walkthrough was tremendous; please come along to this event!”

In addition to the opening, Council is polling for a new name for the facility and will adopt the community's preferred name for the building at the June council meeting. The naming survey is accessible online at

For residents who do not have access to the internet, a paper copy of the survey is available for pick up from customer service. Further information on the project is available at
