Council held a Statutory Council Meeting at 12.30pm today in the Council Chambers at Pleasant Creek Historic Precinct to elect a Mayor. The unscheduled meeting was called following the passing of the late mayor Cr Tony Driscoll earlier this month.
The meeting was facilitated by CEO Ms Liana Thompson in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020 and the Council’s Governance Rules.
Cr Murray Emerson was elected as Mayor for the remainder of the 2021-22 term of the late mayor and will serve in the role until the statutory council meeting scheduled for 7 November 2022.
Mayor elect, Cr Emerson thanked his fellow councillors for their nomination and support.
“It is an important time for us as a Council to be coming together and supporting each other during the remainder of Cr Driscoll’s term and to carry on the work that our late Mayor has put in place leading up to his very courageous fight with cancer,” stated Cr Emerson.
Cr Emerson, representing the Stawell Ward, was first elected to Council on 27 October 2012 and has served four terms as mayor from 2014-15; 2015-16; 2019-20 and 2020-21.
The late mayor Cr Tony Driscoll was a councillor for Northern Grampians Shire Council since October 2012 and was serving his third term as mayor prior to passing.
