Northern Grampians Shire Council has been successful with its application in the second round of Victorian Government Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program for new netball courts at North Park in Stawell. Earlier this month, the Minister for Sport, the Hon Ros Spence MP, announced outcomes of the Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) grants advising Council of their success and that $1.85 million would be made available for the project.
The announcement was officially delivered to the Stawell Recreation Advisory Group and the community by NGSC Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson after Interchurch Junior Netball Training on Thursday night.
“After the recent completion of the North Park Multipurpose Sporting Hub, this really is the icing on the cake of what North Park will be for our sporting community,” Cr Emerson stated.
“We thank Minister Spence’s office and Sport and Recreation Victoria for providing funding to realise this project.
“This funding announcement will help us conceive a long-awaited dream for our local netballing teams to offer a premium court facility for netballers and spectators alike.”
The North Park Netball Court Development project will see the construction of three reinforced concrete netball courts at North Park, Stawell. The project includes lighting and wheelchair accessible pathways and walkways and spectator standing areas. The courts will also have two shelters with seating and fencing.
The project is being developed by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government. SRV will contact Council with further information regarding the funding and commencement details and other considerations for the project in due course.
