Celebrating History Month | Stawell Historical Society

Are you a long-term Resident of Stawell? Perhaps you have recently moved here and are keen to learn more about the town's history, its families, businesses, primary industries, claims-to-fame etc. Perhaps you have local history knowledge and experience that you can share with others.

It's History Month in October and is therefore an ideal opportunity to visit the Stawell Historical Society to look at their amazing research facility and with guided tours of the Old Pleasant Creek Courthouse Museum also available to the public.

Their experienced team of volunteers are available to answer your questions and provide detailed commentary of our surroundings and key milestones over time. 

For teachers, this is an ideal opportunity to engage your school community in activities related to local history and encourage student groups to go and visit them.

For community groups, families and individuals, this is an opportunity to share your knowledge, personal experiences and research your own background.

Their usual opening days are Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10.00am – 4.00pm, however their team are also more than happy to welcome you on other days by appointment.

They will also be holding an open day on Saturday 12^th October between 11.00am – 3.00pm as well. Whilst groups are more than welcome, it would be appreciated if they could notify the team in advance so appropriate planning can be done to make your experience as smooth as possible. A guided walk around the Historical Pleasant Creek Precinct is being conducted from 2.00pm – 3.00pm for those interested too.
