Northern Grampians Shire Council at its April Council meeting agreed to give further public consultation on the naming of an unnamed road off King Street and Hill Street, Stawell, as Fleetwood-Smith Loop.
This is in recognition of Leslie O’Brien “Chuck” Fleetwood-Smith who was born and raised in Stawell. Mr Fleetwood-Smith was a “wayward genius” of Australian Cricket during the 1930s. A bowler that could spin the ball harder than any of his fellow peers. He is considered as the Sharne Warne of his era and was regarded as a rare talent.
Any comment on the proposal must be done in writing and sent to the Chief Executive Officer, Northern Grampians Shire Council, PO Box 580, Stawell 3380 or emailed to ngshire@ngshire.vic.gov.au by Friday, 27 May 2022. Council will consider submissions received and the formal naming of this road at a Council Meeting at Stawell on Monday, 4 July 2022 commencing at 12.30pm. LIANA THOMPSON CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
