Museums and Cultural Spaces

Northern Grampians Shire has a rich culture and history.

Local indigenous stories can be discovered at Brambuk Cultural Centre and Gariwerd (Grampians) National Park is home to 80% of Victoria’s rock art sites, some dating back more than 20,000 years. There are approximately 200 rock art sites recorded, with five sites open to the public.

Gold mining and agriculture also play a large part in the history of the shire. Relics of the mining history can be seen across towns and also in the collections of our many local historical societies.

Recently opened in June 2025, WAMA is Australia's first space dedicated to environmental art — showcasing and reflecting on artistic narratives concerning the natural world. The Wama Foundation includes the National Centre for Environmental Art, the Gariwerd/Grampians Endemic Botanic Garden, Jallukar Native Grasslands, ephemeral wetland, native bushland, café, and shop.
