Project: Lord Nelson Park Multipurpose Sporting Facility
How will the construction impact on existing sports and use of the reserve?
Impact to users is expected. The site chosen will be where the existing TOTE Building is located (between netball courts, main oval and sporting club) therefore the current canteen, storage, harness spaces and parts of the sheep pavilion will be affected. Council will work with user groups to mitigate the impacts. Construction fencing will be erected around the site for safety.
How long will the construction take?
Construction is expected to start after January 2021 with completion by February 2022.
What is the total cost?
Council is in the process of developing a cost structure and the total facility project cost is expected to be around $3.1M plus contingencies and external works.
Who is paying for it?
$700,000 has been committed by the State Government, $500,000 from Sport Australia, $100,000 from the AFL, $150,000 from the community and the balance from Northern Grampians Shire Council.
Will the new building have cost-saving devices for future sustainability?
Yes. The construction will utilise the best available products to reduce energy use and costs. Environmentally Sustainable Design will form a key component of construction and solar panels will be considered as a part of the project development.
Will other buildings be demolished to make way for this project and what it will provide?
Yes the TOTE building is planned to be removed during this project.
