To celebrate National Volunteer Week this year, council is joining forces with Central Grampians LLEN, Grampians Community Health and East Wimmera Health Service to launch - My Year to Volunteer, a campaign that recognises our amazing local volunteers and celebrates the vital role they play in building stronger, more connected, and inclusive communities.

Following on from the success of our Northern Gramps Girls Can campaign last year where council lit up exercise spaces in the early mornings, several of the shire’s sporting facilities are due to light up again in 2026. Between May 4 and September 30, spaces in Stawell and St Arnaud will light up from 6pm to 7.30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and from 6am and 7am on Wednesday mornings.

Cr Murray Emerson, Mayor of the Northern Grampians Shire Council said, “All credit is due to the community members who participated in this process. They have helped us identify and set the community's priorities for the next 20 years. This input will sit at the start of our strategic planning and decision-making processes for the future of Northern Grampians Shire.”
Highlights of the four-month engagement process included two “20 Years” Exhibitions at St Arnaud and Stawell Council Offices in January 2021 and a Township Roadshow in February. Two draft options were presented to community members in March, with both face-to-face and online feedback on a preferred design and content, paving the way for a final Northern Grampians Shire Community Vision 2041.
Throughout the Shire Vision 2041 project community members were kept informed through regular updates to council social media channels (LinkedIn and Facebook), Digicomms screens at council locations, and council updates in community newspapers.
