East Wimmera Health Service’s ‘smoothie bike’ was in hot demand during the school holidays, when it made a scheduled stop at St Arnaud library.
Health service staff estimated people made 60 smoothies between 10am and 3pm, pedaling the bike to mix their fruity concoctions.
Northern Grampians Shire mayor Karen Hyslop said library staff reported a massive increase in patronage on the day.
“They were expecting about 80 people but instead welcomed 193 people to the branch,” she said.
“The event was incredibly popular with families and the kids proudly showed off their concoctions to our library staff and discussed their fruit of choice.”
Cr Hyslop said the council was keen to continue its partnership with EWHS, promoting healthy choices for shire residents.
“The education around healthy eating and supporting youth with a healthy holiday activity was a fabulous initiative,” she said.
“On behalf of council and the community, we would like to thank Maddison and Stacey from EWHS for bringing the smoothie bike to the library and supporting the health and wellbeing of the St Arnaud community.”
