The new multipurpose sporting facility project at Lord Nelson Park, St Arnaud is off to a flying start with demolition commencing this week. Contractors are currently removing asbestos with main demolition to commence this week. Materials will be recycled and any suitable materials will be processed with a rock crusher for road and building material base: an important environmental objective of the project. Local contractors are heavily involved in this project with the road base, retaining walls and footpaths, and other preliminary works carried out by local businesses. The new upper roadway will provide access to the lower section of Lord Nelson Park and the netball courts. This road will be sealed in the next few weeks and traffic management will be in place to direct traffic or close off access during this process. The new building design concept to replace the current Tote building is being finalised with St Arnaud Recreation Advisory Group, Sport and Recreation Victoria, and the Victorian peak bodies for AFL, netball, hockey and harness racing. Northern Grampians Shire Councillor for Kara Kara Ward, Cr Tony Driscoll, is very pleased with the progress of the project. “There is nothing more reassuring than seeing the old Tote building being demolished,” he said. “It means we know the new modern, multipurpose sporting facility our St Arnaud community has been calling for is about to take shape. “This building is symbolic of our community’s love of sport and through constant consultation, is tailored to their needs; I cannot wait to see their response when it is complete.” For more information on the project and to view the time lapse footage please visit www.ngshire.vic.gov.au/Lord-Nelson-Park
