As chair of the Stawell Gift Event Management Board, I would like to report on the very successful 2026 Powercor Stawell Gift that was held over the Easter weekend.

I am extremely proud of the Board for its continuous work in elevating this prestigious event to new levels each year.

I would like to give a huge thank you to our very loyal and highly valued volunteers for their continuous support and assistance in delivering the three-day gift carnival.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the event’s sponsors – from large to small – for their investment in this wonderful weekend of outstanding athletics and country hospitality.

To the people who support me personally throughout the year, thank you so much.

Events as magnificent as this one require a great team effort.

Northern Grampians Shire Council and the wider community should be very proud of the Stawell Gift carnival, which is recognised internationally.

Although the major prize for this year’s Powercor Women's Stawell Gift was won by our international guest, Sha’Carri Richardson, our local athletes made sure it was a true contest of speed and ability.

Congratulations to Sha’Carri, men’s Stawell Gift winner Olufemi Komolafe, and all the athletes who took part over the three days.

The crowds were treated to some outstanding competition.

It is always a great atmosphere in Stawell at Easter and this year was no exception, with a wide range of activities and attractions on offer. Well done to everyone who plays a role in the festivities and makes Northern Grampians Shire the place to be at this time of year.

With the Stawell Gift carnival wrapped for another year, the sporting spotlight now turns to winter pursuits including football, netball and hockey.

We wish all our local clubs the best of luck for season 2026.

Of course, away from the sporting stage, Northern Grampians Shire Council has continued to represent and support its community in the world of local government.

There are several pressing issues, with the cost of living crisis among the most notable.

We are all affected by this continuing challenge and councillors and council leaders take every possible opportunity to discuss this issue with people who have the power to influence outcomes.

Now that we have our budget and Council Plan in place, it is our responsibility to deliver some outcomes for our community. We will do that to the best of our ability.
