Following on from the success of our Northern Gramps Girls Can campaign last year where council lit up exercise spaces in the early mornings, several of the shire’s sporting facilities are due to light up again in 2026. Between May 4 and September 30, spaces in Stawell and St Arnaud will light up from 6pm to 7.30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and from 6am and 7am on Wednesday mornings.

Northern Grampians Shire Council put its waste contract out to tender recently and is pleased to announce that its new contractor, Wimmera Mallee Waste commenced on the first of July and after one month there has been a reduced number of complaints.
“Northern Grampians Shire Council has a robust procurement process that requires value for money, and Rainbow based business, Wimmera Mallee Waste, has an enviable record with the lowest number of missed bin complaints across the region,” said Councillor Rob Haswell, Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council.
Regarding waste management, most complaints received by council are because bins were not emptied. The average number of missed bin complaints for the last financial year was 34 bins per month. In the month of July, we have had a 24% improvement in missed bins and all were resolved within 48 hours.
“Better communication by Wimmera Mallee Waste has also been reported. We believe that ratepayers and residents across Northern Grampians Shire will continue to receive better value, better communication and a better service from Wimmera Mallee Waste,” Councillor Haswell added.
