Round One of Community Health and Wellbeing Grants Open

The first round of funding for the 2020/21 Northern Grampians Community Health and Wellbeing Grants will open for application on 1 August 2020.  

The grants provide support to locally based groups and organisations to develop opportunities that will improve the lives of people in our communities. 

Council is specifically seeking projects that align with the five key health and wellbeing goals of healthy eating, active living, mental wellbeing, preventing violence and physical injury, and supporting early years. 

Recipients of the community health and wellbeing grants from the 2019/20 grant rounds include: 

• Halls Gap Caravan Park and Recreation Reserve Committee Inc for the Halls Gap Community Sports Precinct Stage One. This grant helped the committee produce a concept plan to assist them with seeking further government funding.
• North Central LGBTIQ Network for "Being Frank" performance in St Arnaud. When it becomes possible to hold live performances again, this project will explore some of challenges that can be experienced by trans people, their friends and family members. 
• The St Arnaud Neighbourhood House for the development of life storybooks to bring back memories for a person living with dementia. 
• WAMA Foundation (Wildlife Art Museum of Australia) for “The Biggest Science Experiment’ (BigSciExp). BigSciExp is an ongoing community science project engaging the community in science projects in the Northern Grampians Region. It will culminate in a Virtual Expo during Science Week, 15 to 23 August 2020.

Round one of the grants for 2020-21 are open from Saturday 1 August and will close on Saturday 12 September. 

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Murray Emerson, was delighted to announce the first round of this year’s Community Health and Wellbeing Grants.

“This has been a difficult year for everyone who is reliant on funding to get their projects off the ground,” he said. 

“We are very happy to once again offer financial support to local groups and encourage any individuals and  associations to apply for a grant for their community projects.”
  
The grants are always very competitive with many worthy projects vying for the funding. All applicants are encouraged to contact the Community Development team on 03 5358 8700 or community@ngshire.vic.gov.au to discuss their projects prior to submitting.
