Public Registers

Under the Local Government Act 1989 council must ensure that certain documents are made available for inspection by the public.

This document contains details of overseas or interstate travel (other than interstate travel by land for less than three days) undertaken in an official capacity by any councillor or member of council staff in the previous 12 months.

Council must keep a register of delegations of its powers, duties or functions to special committees and members of council staff in force. The register must include the date on which the last review of delegations took place which must be within the period of 12 months after a general election.

Council must maintain and make available for public inspection a document containing details of all leases involving land which were entered into by the council as lessor, including the lessee and the terms and the value of the lease.

Council must maintain and make available to the public a register of authorised officers appointed under s.224(1A) of the Local Government Act 1989.

Council must make available for inspection a list of donations and grants made by the council in the previous 12 months, including the names or persons who, or bodies which, have received a donation or grant and the amount of each donation or grant.

Council has adopted a Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy(PDF, 306KB) which clearly outlines its position on responding to offers of gifts, benefits and hospitality to ensure transparency and accountability.

Council maintains a Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Register to record and publish all offers, whether accepted or declined. A copy of the register that complies with our privacy obligations is published below.

You can inspect the Voters' Roll and Chief Executive Officer Voters' Roll for a short period before a general election at our council offices. 

Local council elections are held on the fourth Saturday of October every four years. The next round of council elections will be held on Saturday 24 October 2020. Find out more here

Council must:

ensure that the Voters' Roll is available for inspection by members of the public for the period of 15 working days ending at 4pm on the entitlement date

ensure that the Voters' Roll certified by the Chief Executive Officer is available for inspection by members of the public for the period

a. beginning on the day after the roll is certified; and

b. ending 30 days after election day.

The Chief Executive Officer must ensure that following a general election a summary of each election campaign donation return(PDF, 55KB) given to them is made available on the Internet website of the council.

If an election campaign donation return is given after the period specified, the Chief Executive Officer must ensure that a summary of the return is made available on the Internet website of the council.

The Chief Executive Officer must ensure that a summary of an election campaign donation return is made available on the Internet website of the council until the entitlement date for the next general election.

The Chief Executive Officer must ensure that a copy of an election campaign donation return is available for inspection at the office of the council during normal office hours for a period of four years from the date that it is given.

 

The Chief Executive Officer must ensure that the written record of an assembly of councillors is made available for public inspection at the offices of the Council for a period of 12 months after the date of the assembly.  If you would like to inspect the register of Primary and Ordinary Returns you must make a written application to the Chief Executive Officer.  The Governance team will then arrange an inspection.  If you have any queries contact the Governance team on 03 5358 8700.

 

A Chief Executive Officer must:

a. maintain a register of the interests of Councillors, members of special committees and nominated officers

b. allow a person to inspect the register if that person has previously made written application to the CEO to do so and the application meets the requirements of the Local Government Regulations.
