Remember a Local – Help Name a Road or a Place

Council currently has three roads that needs naming, and we are calling on the community to help commemorate local heroes.

As part of the Victorian State Government’s ‘Remember a Local’ initiative to name places, we are inviting you to nominate someone who has made a lasting impact on our community. This is a special opportunity to honour individuals who have helped shape our lives, especially those from under-represented groups including women, First Peoples and multicultural communities.

To be commemorated, the person will:

  • be deceased for at least two years
  • have left a lasting legacy
  • have a long association with the nominated area.

Contributions might include work in community service, healthcare, science, sport, architecture, military service, the arts or volunteering.

The roads that require naming are as follows:

  • Unnamed Road 1 runs north to south between Hopetoun Street and Unnamed Road 2, St Arnaud.
  • Unnamed Road 2 runs west to east between Butcher and Clyde Street, St Arnaud.
  • Named Road (currently named Horwill Lane) runs north to south between Maryborough – St Arnaud Road and Grants Road, Natte Yallock.

Your nominations could help name these roads and all submissions will be added to council’s official Name Bank to be considered for future naming opportunities.

You can email ngshire@ngshire.vic.gov.au to make a nomination to name any of the three roads or add to the council’s Name Bank.

You can visit https://engage.vic.gov.au/name-a-place for more information about the ‘Remember a Local’ program and to submit any nomination for a road you might have elsewhere in the shire.
