Council will advocate for aged care services in the municipality to be transitioned to local service providers, namely Grampians Community Health and East Wimmera Health Service, following a decision made at the July council meeting in Stawell. There are no immediate changes to any services for current clients and no action required for now.

Council has released its Advocacy Prospectus 2026 which outlines where the organisation will focus its advocacy efforts to state and federal governments, particularly in the lead-up to November’s State Election. In accordance with guidelines contained in the Geographic Place Names Act 1998, Council proposes to name the new clubrooms at the Great Western Recreation Reserve, 42 – 58 Brunel Street, Great Western Thomson Community Centre.
This is in recognition of the contribution that Mr Frederick ‘Eric’ Thomson and family have provided the Great Western community which are worthy of commemoration.
Council will consider submissions received and the formal naming of this place at a Council Meeting on 4 August 2025 commencing at 12.30pm in the Council Chambers, Pleasant Creek Historic Precinct, Stawell.
