Northern Grampians Shire residents can influence council's 2026/27 budget by reviewing and providing feedback on the proposed council plan year two priorities. This process is different from previous years where residents traditionally had an opportunity to provide submissions to a draft budget. Feedback closes at 4pm Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Wingfield Road at Rostron will be closed for about two months while Northern Grampians Shire Council completes a bridge upgrade project.
The bridge, about 640 metres west of Sandy Creek Road intersection, is in poor condition and requires refurbishment works to ensure safety for larger vehicles using the route.
To facilitate the bridge project, Wingfield Road will need to be closed for about two months.
The work is scheduled to start on July 21 and is expected to finish around mid-September, weather permitting.
A significant detour will be in place due to the road closure.
Vehicles will need to travel either north via Ararat–St Arnaud Road and Sandy Creek Road (red line on map) or south via Ararat–St Arnaud Road and Winjallok Road (blue line).
Heavy vehicles should use the north route via Ararat–St Arnaud Road and Sandy Creek Road.
Speed reductions will be in place on parts of the unsealed detour roads. Access to properties on either side of the works will remain available, but crossing the bridge will not be possible during the closure.
Council understands the closure might inconvenience people who regularly use this road, and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly as possible.
