Attracting new residents and skilled workers

Published on 17 March 2021

The COVID-19 global pandemic of 2020 has had wide-spread consequences for all Australians.

Yet, in spite of serious negative consequences, the pandemic may also have positives for our local Northern Grampians economy.

This unprecedented crisis may provide a unique moment in time to demonstrate that a permanent change to a simpler life is a possibility. An opportunity exists to fill job vacancies that are hard to fill from the local workforce, by attracting skills from outside the region. Northern Grampians Shire has partnered with our neighbouring councils (Southern Grampians, Ararat City Council, Horsham Rural City) to deliver a fabulous marketing campaign aimed at attracting new residents with a variety of skills to the Grampians region.

The Live the Grampians Way – Live. Work. Invest Campaign will capture data/information of those seeking to make a move to the wonderful Grampians. Potential new residents can register their interest in any upcoming employment, accommodation, education or business opportunities and also view any existing opportunities online.

This project involves a significant radio, digital and printed marketing campaign targeted towards multiple areas including Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide and Brisbane and has received 6,924 site visits to the website from December to January. With more marketing due to take place soon, this website is the perfect way to advertise your employment vacancies, housing vacancies (rental and sale) and business opportunities.

The matching engines that underpin the platform, combined with experienced recruitment personnel, allow employers to nominate the skills, qualifications and experience that they are finding difficult to recruit.

A team will match these needs with the qualified candidates who have expressed their willingness to move to the Grampians region. The platform is also open to local residents who may register their particular skills and qualifications.

The Mayor, Cr Murray Emerson, said this is an innovative new solution to the attraction of skilled workers and new residents to the Northern Grampians Shire region and the timing is right with people looking at regional lifestyle opportunities due to COVID.

“This is a great tool for businesses seeking to fill longstanding job vacancies in the shire and for job seekers to share their skills with the view to finding an available role. I encourage employers, education providers and real estate agents to register their business and vacancies onsite so that we can accurately match candidates.”
