Northern Grampians Shire Council have developed a Draft Renewable Energy Transition Action Plan(PDF, 7MB), working alongside 23 local businesses to target energy intensive construction, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, and tourism businesses.

The key actions outlined within this plan will develop a guiding framework for the development of renewable energy within the shire.

We would like to provide you, our community members and businesses, with the opportunity to have your say about the current renewable energy landscape in the Northern Grampians Shire. Further information is available below.

Key Actions

The four key overarching actions in the Draft Renewable Energy Transition Action Plan(PDF, 7MB) are:

  • Managing the renewable energy transition – to ensure renewable energy development adds to our economic and social prosperity
  • Obtaining social license – through ongoing conversation with renewable energy developers, we hope to negotiate a share of the proceeds from renewable energy development for distribution within our local economy
  • Investing in jobs, skills and innovation – unlocking the opportunity for renewable energy to become a key regional driver of jobs, skills and innovation
  • Insulating local industry from exposure to price shock – assist exposed businesses to access new market opportunities to shore-up pricing stability

Survey

Northern Grampians Shire Council have designed a survey to further develop our understanding surrounding the context of renewable energy transition for community members and businesses throughout our shire.

We appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey as it will help us to design a plan that works for you. The survey is divided into two sections: A and B.  Please note that the questions in Section B are optional.

We recommend that you read our Draft Renewable Energy Transition Action Plan(PDF, 7MB) before you respond.

Please click here to complete the survey. If you are a community member and a business owner, you can complete both surveys.

All survey submissions will need to be completed before 5pm, Friday, 31 March 2023.

Community feedback will be evaluated and incorporated in the final plan, before coming back to council for adoption at a future council meeting.

Supporting Information

Council commissioned the team at Grantus and Proud Mary Consulting to provide us with a positions paper and policy review of the clean energy landscape, and to conduct the local business and industry consultations on their energy needs. These findings have been the principal information that has informed Council in developing this plan.
