Giving back to your community
We have a pool of valuable volunteers who help serve our community, but we are always looking for more. Council relies on volunteers to deliver many services to the community, from delivering Meals on Wheels to youth volunteering on council's Youth Action Council.
Meals on Wheels volunteering
Please download the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Handbook to find out all the information you need to know about delivering Meals on Wheels.
Meals are delivered five days a week and take roughly 25-30 minutes to deliver depending on how many meals are required that day. Meals are delivered at 11.30am each day from Stawell Regional Health in Stawell and East Wimmera Health Services in St Arnaud.
You can volunteer as much or as little as you want, which can be one day a week, one day a month/year, whenever it suits you, we appreciate any help.
If you are interested in being a Meals on Wheels volunteer, please give the Home and Community Care office a call on 03 5358 8700 to get yourself an information pack and the correct paperwork.
Volunteers are the backbone of the Meals on Wheels program and without them; we cannot provide this fantastic service to our clients in need.
Youth Action Council
The Northern Grampians Shire Council's first ever Youth Action Council was established in April 2013. You can meet our current members by clicking here NGSC Youth Action Group
The YAC recently launched the council's first ever Youth Strategy. The strategy has four key priorities, recreation and events, health, safety and wellbeing, education and employment, leadership and community connections.
The YAC is being funded through the State Government’s Engage! A program which aims to help improve young people’s support networks and strengthen their connections with family, friends and peers. As part of the program, the YAC manages various community projects and events. The group also provides opportunities for youth to volunteer, participate in mentoring and develop education and employment pathways.
