Sports and recreation
The Northern Grampians Shire Council area is located in Central West Victoria and incorporates the Grampians Region of provincial Victoria. The shire covers an area of almost 6,000 square kilometres and services the major towns and villages of Stawell, St Arnaud, Great Western, Halls Gap, Navarre, Glenorchy, Marnoo and Stuart Mill. More than 11,500 people live within the shire area as well as more than 1 million annual tourists and day visitors who are attracted to the Grampians Regional areas.
The shire has a strong economy based on agriculture, gold mining, manufacturing and tourism.
The shire supports a broad range of sporting, recreational, open space and leisure services at a large range of facilities, parklands and open space areas. The development of an Open Space Sport and Recreation Strategy project aimed to review these facilities, programs and services and provide council with an open space, sport and recreation strategy for the next 10 years.
This strategy is available on this website in our Council Publications section.
