Reshaped roads set to deliver on safety

Driver safety is the catalyst behind the realignment of one of the Northern Grampians Shire’s key intersections.
Council’s Infrastructure department is helping to deliver improved safety at the intersection of Stawell-Avoca Road and Wimmera Downs Road, with a realignment of the intersection delivering a new T-intersection aimed at improving line of sight and removing blind spots which formerly created major risks for motorists.
The works are being carried out under Council’s Road Safety Road Safety Treatment Program, and are in-line with a statewide push to remove the risks associated with similar intersections following a series of fatalities across Victoria.
With the works slated to be completed by the end of March, Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Tony Driscoll said Council was proud to be providing a safer experience for road users.
“This is a road that is travelled by a number of users, including large vehicles, such as semi trailers, so being able to provide a safer intersection for road users is of the utmost importance,” Cr Driscoll said.
“By realigning the roadway, we have removed the dangers posed by the blind spots and improved the line of sight for all road users.
“We currently manage in excess of 3000 kilometres worth of roads, and Council is committed to delivering a safer experience for road users right across the Northern Grampians Shire.”
