The Victorian Government Parliamentary Secretary Ms Danielle Green MP has announced a further $280,000 in funding for Northern Grampians Shire Council projects during her visit to the shire on Saturday 28 May.

Ms Green was officially opening the $2.15 million North Park Netball Court Upgrade in Stawell on Saturday morning when she announced Victorian Government funding of $30,000 for the Northern Grampians Sport and Active Recreation Strategy Planning and $250,000 for the Lord Nelson Park Lighting Upgrade..

Following the court opening Ms Green headed to Lord Nelson Park Multipurpose Sporting Pavilion in St Arnaud to meet with Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr Tony Driscoll and stakeholders from the recreation advisory group to share the same news face to face.

Mayor Driscoll said council was very appreciative of the additional funding announcement.

“This is fantastic news for our shire”, said Cr Driscoll. “Sport and recreation are very much part of the fabric of country living; lots of our residents play, watch or volunteer at local sport on a weekly basis.”

“The pandemic affected local sporting clubs in a very big way, participation was inhibited, spectators and gate entries were down and enthusiasm to volunteer has also taken a hit.

“This funding for planning is going to really help us pinpoint valid ways to reinvigorate sport and recreation in our community.

“I know the hockey and football clubs in St Arnaud are delighted with the lighting funding which will open up a lot more training and playing opportunities for them and other users of the Lord Nelson Park precinct.”
