St Arnaud joins Main Streets Campaign

Published on 03 May 2022

Northern Grampians Shire Council has partnered with Main Streets of Australia to advocate for local shopping in St Arnaud.  The Main Streets campaign is a nationwide celebration of main streets and town centres and what they provide to the community.

Council has been placing posters and visiting businesses in Napier Street, St Arnaud to encourage the community to celebrate, shop local and patronise the St Arnaud business district and retail strip.

As part of the campaign, Council has organised a St Arnaud Historic Image Hunt open to all shoppers that can be completed anytime between 16 and 21 May to celebrate Napier Street. The image hunt is a collection of 12 posters featuring historic images of Napier Street with corresponding questions located in various businesses along Napier Street.

To participate in the image hunt, the community can collect an entry form from participating Napier Street businesses or Council’s customer service at the St Arnaud Town Hall. Once the participants have found all of the images in the Napier Street businesses, they simply write their answers on the entry form and return it to customer service for a chance to go in the draw for a randomly selected prize.

The image hunt can be completed at any time throughout the Main Streets campaign period on the proviso that the form is returned by close of business on Monday 23 May.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Tony Driscoll sees the Main Streets campaign as an excellent opportunity to showcase the historic value of Napier Street and encourage walk-in patronage of St Arnaud’s main street.

“I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the heritage of our beautiful shopping precinct and show support for our local businesses who have certainly done it tough the last few years,” said Cr Driscoll.
