There has been so much to celebrate within our shire this month.

Within the space of a week, I have had the very great pleasure of announcing funding for two big projects about to commence in Stawell.

The State Government announced our success in the second round of grant applications for Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus funding and will contribute $1.85M to new netball courts and surrounds at North Park in Stawell. I attended the North Park netball courts last Wednesday to make this announcement in front of the Interchurch Junior Netballers and Stawell Recreation Advisory Group members. Visitors and our local sporting community will have a lot to look forward to at North Park now with its brand-new multipurpose sporting facility and netball court area that will soon be enjoyed by players and spectators alike.

It was equally good to hear from the State Government that Stawell Library will be undergoing extensive renovations through the Living Libraries funding program. It was the perfect platform to make this funding announcement during Library and Information Week Biggest Morning Tea event. These renovations will reinstate the library as a modern and user-friendly hub for all kinds of events and we cannot wait to see this transformation.

It is wonderful to see the construction of Lord Nelson Park’s multipurpose sporting facility really moving along now since the official sod turning and I encourage you to monitor its progress via our website www.ngshire.vic.gov.au/Lord-Nelson-Park and social media.

I am very happy to see two of the jewels in our shire’s tourism crown – Halls Gap and Great Western - making it into the list of nominees for state awards at the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards. If they are successful, they will go on to be nominees at national tourism awards.  Voting closes this Thursday 27 May so please go and vote for Halls Gap and Great Western at  https://www.vtic.com.au/toptourismtown.”

We are progressing well with the draft of the council plan after a series of workshops and information sessions with the community to review the plan. Our CEO, Liana Thompson and I really enjoyed interacting with those of you who joined us to discuss this plan. You can download a copy of the draft plan at www.ngshire.vic.gov.au/Have-Your-Say/Council-Plan-2021-25
