Shop Local campaign coming to St Arnaud

Traders in St Arnaud have banded together to run a shop local promotion this Christmas.

The traders approached Northern Grampians Shire Council for support and have been granted funding and in-kind assistance via council’s Business Assistance Scheme.

The ‘Shop St Arnaud’ promotion will kick off on Friday 30 November which will coincide with late night shopping event, the Night Traders Market.

The promotion will run until 5pm Friday 14 December, and will support the Lions Club Christmas Procession, with prize winners being drawn after the event.

The traders are also partnering with North Central News to incorporate the newspaper’s annual ‘red star’ promotion.

A spokesperson for the St Arnaud Traders said, “With the lead up to Christmas, we got together and decided we needed to bring a festive mood to the town."

"With a two week "shop local" Christmas promotion, ending with the Lions Club Christmas Procession and festivities in Market Square, we feel this will be a great opportunity for all the community to get together."

Councillor Tony Driscoll, Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council said, “This is a positive collaboration driven by local traders to put this all together, which is going to be a great benefit to the community.”

“We’re really excited about this being the first joint application through our Business Assistance Scheme, and we hope it’s the first of many more joint applications to come.”

“We certainly encourage our community to shop local this Christmas.”

To enter the competition, customers must spend at least $10 in any of the participating retailers and fill out their details on an entry card which then gets placed in an entry box in store.
