SMARTfit technology comes to Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre

Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre (SSAC) has become one of the first facilities of its kind in Australia to obtain new innovative technology that is a full brain and body training experience.

The SMARTfit technology provides a unique, fun and measurable workout that helps both mental and muscle retention skills, while addressing the physical and cognitive training needs of each client.

The workouts involve dual-tasking, working out the mind and body simultaneously by using ‘gamification’.

The technology has benefits for people from all walks of life, from trained athletes, to the elderly, to rehab patients. The technology has also resulted in positive outcomes for youth, in particular those with developmental disorders, helping train their brain in a fun, engaging and active way.

Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “It’s certainly an exciting and very versatile piece of technology, and one which we’re very fortunate to have in Stawell.”

“Not only does it have many uses from a fitness, speed and rehab standpoint, but it also greatly benefits kids with autism and other developmental disorders through the myriad of activities that can be performed.”

Once set up with a profile and taught how to use the equipment, members of SSAC will be able to use the technology at any time.

Non-members are also welcome to attend SSAC for a tour of the facilities and to check out the state-of-the-art technology if they’re considering joining SSAC.

New SMARTfit 30 Classes have also begun on Mondays (10am), Tuesdays (6.15am), Wednesdays (6pm) and Fridays (9.30am), while classes aimed at kids between 12-16 years are run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4.15pm.
