NGSC’s recycling services to continue in line with Victorian State Government Recycling Industry Strategic Plan

Northern Grampians Shire Council residents will continue to have their recycling processed through Visy recycling plants in Melbourne.

Sent to Visy via the Council’s contractor Wheelie Waste, the recycling is bulked up together for transportation to the recycling plants, where it also undertakes random inspections and audits.

“A lot of work has been done in communicating the importance of recycling to keep it out of landfill,” said Councillor Tony Driscoll, Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council.

“Council is committed to ongoing recycling within the community and we’ll continue to work with other tiers of government on this matter as well.”

“Our recycling is categorically not going into landfill.”

It’s all a part of the Victorian State Government’s Recycling Industry Strategic Plan, which is a blueprint for a safe, resilient and efficient recycling system in Victoria.

Over the course of the three-year plan which aims to stabilise the recycling sector, goals include increasing the quality of recycled materials, improving the recycling sector’s diversity and productivity, and developing new markets for recycled materials.

Over time the plan will also help minimise costs to Victorian households and ensure the viability of kerbside recycling collection services.
